Court rules on same-sex child custody case
It's what same-sex parents in California and across the country have been fighting for: recognition as legal parents. A nearby state's Supreme Court ruling on June 1 now gives legal parental rights to a former same-sex partner of an adoptive mother. This ruling allows the former partner to seek child custody.
California courts enforce support payments
California courts got serious about child support this week when Dennis Rodman, the former NBA player, was sentenced to community service and three years informal probation for failure to pay child support. An Orange County court official stated that Rodman was charged with contempt for failing to pay child support and must do 104 hours of community service as part of the sentence.
